Zij bestaat uit 10 items met 4 mogelijke antwoorden, waaruit de moeder het antwoord kiest dat het dichtst mogelijk ligt bij hoe zij zich voelde in de afgelopen week. De EPDS kan afgenomen worden kort na de bevalling, maar kan ook later (herhaald) afgenomen worden binnen een periode van 12 maanden na de bevalling.
